Bangkok, 22 Oct - The Director General of National Anti Financial Crime Centre (NFCC), YBhg Dato' Sri Shamshun Baharin bin Mohd Jamil has attend 2024 World Anti-Corruption Conference (WACC) which took it place at Rangsit University in Bangkok, Thailand. Dato' Sri Shamshun Baharin delivered the opening keynote speech in front of about 200 participants consisting of leaders, policy makers, academics, experts, advocates from Southeast Asian countries.
In his speech, he stated "fighting corruption is not just about addressing symptoms, it is about tackling the root causes. Whether through improving governance, reforming public procurement processes, enhancing the transparency of financial systems, or promoting ethical leadership, our task is to root out corruption at its source. We must do so in a way that strengthens the foundation of trust, transparency, and accountability across every level of society".
The opening of this conference was started by Mr. CY Cheah, Chairman of International Strategy Institute (ISI) and also followed with a welcome keynote by Dr. Arthit Ourairat, Founding President Emeritus of Rangsit University also former Vice President of the Parliament of Thailand and former Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand. This conference also invited Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, the former Prime Minister of Thailand to deliver a special keynote address to the participants.
Next, the conference continued with a forums and discussion session featuring panels consisting of leaders, experts and academics from Southeast Asia. For the first forum session titled Empowering SMEs In The Age of Globalisation: Strategies To Combat Corruption, it featured YBhg Tan Sri Abu Kassim bin Mohammed, former Chief Commissioner of Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) who sharing the knowledges and ideas on how SMEs play a role no less important in contributing to global GDP is also being able to combat corruption, enabling these enterprises to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
The next forum was titled Cross-Border Anti-Corruption Efforts In Asia Pacific: Enhancing Regional Cooperation, Strengthening Anti-Corruption Legislation and Judicial Independence: Building Robust Legal Framework, and Levering Technological Solutions To Detect and Prevent Corruption. The conference closed in the evening with a closing keynote speech by Professor Vicha Mahakun, Dean of the School of Law, Rangsit University & Senior Advisory Board International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA).
ISI organising this WACC is set to advance the global Anti-Corruption dialogue under the theme "Transforming Trust, Eradicate Corruption: A Global Unity for Integrity. Bringing together leaders, policymakers, and experts from around the world, this conference aims to advance a comprehensive understanding of corruption, promote effective anti-corruption strategies, and advocate for enhance transparency and accountability.
