Southeast Asia Anti-Corruption Conference: Recalling Jakarta Statement

Putrajaya, 29 April – The Southeast Asia Anti-Corruption Conference: Recalling the Jakarta Statement was held on 29 April 2025 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC). The conference was organized by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the South-East Asia Anti-Corruption (SEA-Actions), in strategic collaboration with the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre (NFCC), the Institute of Integrity Malaysia (IIM), and the non-governmental organization Rasuah Busters.

The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including YBhg. Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Chief Secretary to the Government; YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Azam Baki, Chief Commissioner of MACC; YBhg. Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohammed, President of SEA-Actions; Drs Setyo Budianto, Chief Commissioner of the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK); and YBhg. Dato’ Sri Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil, Director-General of NFCC. The conference took place on Tuesday, 29 April 2025, at PICC, Putrajaya.

The program brought together prominent thought leaders and anti-corruption advocates from across Malaysia to discuss challenges, share success stories, reflect on past shortcomings, and forge new alliances in the fight against increasingly complex corruption issues. Anti-corruption agencies from Southeast Asia unanimously agreed to strengthen regional cooperation in combating and preventing corruption through the signing of the Putrajaya Declaration.

The Declaration, endorsed by eight countries—Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Singapore, Timor-Leste, and Cambodia—emphasizes seven priorities centered on the independence, transparency, and effectiveness of anti-corruption agencies as pillars of good governance and sustainable development in the region.
